About the Artist
Ferris Photographics was founded by John Ferris in Portland, Maine in 1987. Johnny was born in Syracuse, New York in July 1950 and studied at the New England School of Photography. As a child he was mesmerized by photographic image he saw in magazines like LIFE, National Geographic and The Saturday Evening Post. He fell in love with the idea of taking pictures and began making photographs in the Nineteen Sixties. His photographs have been published nationally in books and magazines and have garnered awards in the United States and abroad. Johnny has a well-earned reputation for capturing revealing, expressive pictures of people here in Maine and throughout the world. Recently with the advances of digital imagery, Johnny has turned his camera toward nature and has created marvelous photographs of birds, reptiles and other animals.
